We C.A.N. (Change America Now)
Purpose Statements:
We Can: Join with President Obama to create a force for positive change and success in all matters for which we elected him.
We Can: Model and encourage personal responsibility for honest, respectful, tolerant, intelligent, fact based, action, and problem solving in politics and personal interactions.
We Can: Realize that our President cannot make change happen alone. We will seek and develop ways to get the general public involved in positive actions toward economic recovery, human rights, and a more humane value-based philosophy. We will expect our government officials to keep us well informed and involved with regard to all plans and actions effecting any and all U.S. citizen and affairs.
We Can: Work with and expect our elected representatives to work co-operatively with President Obama, their colleagues, and the public by finding positive, honest, intelligent, and innovative short and long term solutions for the best interests and strengthening of all of the U.S. citizens. We will seek and welcome collaboration with other individuals and/or groups whenever possible toward our shared purposes.
We Can: Expect our government and citizens to promote capitalism and democracy by insisting that businesses prosper through fair, honest, and respectful business practice and ethical standards. We will support those businesses (and require government regulation where necessary) that honor the best interests of all their employees, stand behind the quality and high standards of products and/or services offered, charge a fair and honest price for products and/or services, and pay fair wages with no favoritism toward gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or age. We can promote and support those who seek to reinvest in America by hiring U.S. employees and promoting growth in U.S. business and economy, taking great care for human, ecological and environmental safety and do not buy political or special interest favors, tax exemptions, secret deals, or unfair, unethical advantage.
We Can: Expect our government to function with efficiency, effectiveness, honesty, equality, transparency, tolerance, diversity, intelligence, fiscal responsibility, balance, respect, honor, cooperation, and in accordance with the Bill of Rights, and Constitution of the United States.
We Can: Ensure progress and success in these goals by working together, being role models for the change we want, and taking personal responsibility for being well informed and active in shaping and building our nation!
We Can: Influence our news organizations toward meeting a higher standard. We will be a loud and united voice that demands reporters, journalists, and news groups of all kinds to provide honest, fair, balanced, and thorough reporting. Further, we do not want our media news organizations or individuals to “make” news with deliberate provoking, infighting, egging on, or by dishonestly creating conflict for popular or financial gain.
We Can: Overcome greed with generosity. Overcome apathy with accountability. Overcome selfishness with compassion. Overcome deceit with honesty. Overcome hatred with tolerance. Overcome excess with balance. Overcome anger with acknowledgement. Overcome fear with strength. Overcome ignorance with knowledge. Overcome hopelessness with action.
